The Re-Ride

YOU DON'T KNOW JACK: The Re-Ride is a fan-made browser-based remake of, and sequel to, Jackbox Games' 1998 game YDKJ Vol 4: The Ride. It features fully remade-from-scratch graphics, touched-up sounds and music from the original, and an all-new set of 54 episodes, released weekly after the game's initial launch.

What it is

The game is a faithful recreation and modernization of the original gameplay experience, featuring all question types from the original. It can be played single-player on any device capable of running a modern browser, by up to three people on one keyboard, or using phones-as-controllers in Remote Play mode.

Over the course of a calendar year we released two full seasons with 54 voice-acted episodes of 11+ questions each, on a consistent weekly schedule. Season 3 is currently in production and scheduled to be released later in 2026.

Roles

I conceived and executed the project end-to-end, wearing most hats that need to be worn for developing, releasing, and maintaining a game; concretely, that means:

Sam Feeley, a sports broadcaster and prominent Jackbox superfan recognised with easter eggs in official Jackbox titles.

For Season 3, we're bringing additional artists, voice actors, and writers on board.

Community

The project has a Discord server of around 400 dedicated players with engagement rates at times comparable to the official Jackbox community server. The website served roughly 4,800 unique visitors in June 2025 alone, totaling 116+ GB of data served. Several community creators regularly feature episodes as their highest-performing content.

As fan games go, I think The Re-Ride might just be my current favorite.

The attention to detail is insane and commendable - it seems almost miraculous how much work is put into it and I am genuinely amazed how all of it is real.

I am a long-time YDKJ fanboy. This game knocked it completely out of the park.

Technical

The game utilizes a custom TypeScript engine based on Svelte 5, GSAP for animations, and Howler for audio. Development of the initial release took place between 2022 and 2024; no LLM assistance was used.

All visual media was crafted from the ground up: roughly 200 bespoke 3D and 2D assets. Music was manually remastered from the original and supplemented with my own compositions for the Season 2 main menu.
